Love what you do, and you will never work a day in your life

Love what you do, and you will never work a day in your life

What does it mean to love your job? What does it mean for you?

Let’s dig deeper to understand the meaning of this statement. What does it suggest to us? What are the underlying messages? I know most people don’t think about it. You find a quote that is motivating and catchy and you share it on social media. But sometimes, you should think twice before you make it your personal opinion. And here is why.

It is unacceptable not to love your job

HAHAHA! Why? Does it prevent you from doing it right? It shouldn’t. If you are a reasonable human being, you are conscious, and you want to earn your salary. just because that is not something you completely enjoy, you are not going to make mistakes on purpose  And you will find motivation in some other aspects of the job. You have found the meaning of doing that activity for a while until you find something better.

If you love what you do, it is going to be easy

You are going to be happy every day, you will be successful, nothing will bother you.

You could even love your job, but that does not mean it is beneficial for you to do it.

Let’s make it personal. I am a psychologist, and I enjoy listening to people. I would love to make a living out of listening to the people. But am I thrilled all the time doing it? Am I loving every second of it? You guess, no! Sometimes, I am talkative as well, or I can’t stand listening anymore. Or I even disagree with what the person is saying, there is an urge to interrupt him/her immediately. But, I do not do it.

It is an actual disaster if you are not doing what you love

Well, your job is not there to prevent you from doing anything you like in your spare time, right?

Sometimes, you simply cannot do what you love. Do I need to explain this or 2020 is self-explanatory? I love to work with people, organize events, create, communicate, and travel—many of those things I cannot do right now.

This statement questions life-work balance as well.

Don’t let it become: Love what you do and you will be working every single day of your life. ;)

Do you feel the pressure?

Imagine you have finished college and you are not pretty sure what you would like to do. You have unclear career goals. All you what is to find a job and start doing something. And then you finally find a job, start doing it, but it doesn’t feel right. It is tough, you are feeling inadequate. Everyone tells you that you have to love what you do, enjoy, and be happy. That is the only way to do it. Why would you waste your time? You nod, question your choice, start thinking that everyone else is doing better than you. You feel even worse at work, you miss the opportunities to make it better. Eventually, you quit the chance to progress and create value from the experience.

This is all theory, you may say. Okay, I am all about making it real.

So, what is your reality right now? Do you have a job? How are you doing? What makes you get up and get ready to do the work?

Are you satisfied with the job?
How much it impacts your life?
What do I want from my job?

It could be many things. Good salary, great team, good boss, learning new skills are just a few.

Why is this important? You will learn something about your motives. They are different for us all, and they can change over time. And they usually do change.

It is obvious that there are many reasons why you do not have to love what you do, But, here is why it is excellent if you do

It is rewarding. especially if it fits your personality and values. It makes you more resistant to challenges and keeps your motivation high in difficult times. There is something called self-actualization, a state in which you feel you have accomplished your goals and reached your purpose.

Would you love to be there? I would love to! But the road to that point is custom-made. For some of us, it means we need to find purpose in work, for some others the purpose is everything except the work.

What an irony! I am writing this blog post at the moment of a desperate search for a job. So, you may say I am suggestive, and I want to comfort myself.

Could be.

I am doing a part-time job, which is not something I adore. I would like to do something different, something better, something more aligned with my values, etc.… Does it mean I hate what I do right now? No, I am so grateful for the opportunity to do this. I have learned something new. Also, it allows me to pay for my expensive personal training sessions. I would say it is fair compensation.

Love can be found in various activities and forms.

Please, if you are not satisfied with your job right now, don’t get disappointed.

You are still a worth human being, you still can learn and grow.

Any thoughts on this? Or personal experiences? We would love to hear from you. Please leave a comment so we could discuss it together.
